Summary: Federal data isn’t much use if no one can find it. Many chief data officers are running inventories of their data, saying they've got a battle getting their agencies to think critically about it. The Treasury Department’s Bureau of the Fiscal Service is also assessing the maturity of its data and trying to make it more shareable. The bureau's CDO Justin Marsico works closely with its chief information officer to balance data security and availability inside and publicly.
