Summary: We spoke to Gerda Steyn who broke the 25-year-old SA marathon record when she finished ninth in Siena‚ Italy. She clocked 2:25.28 to beat national mark of 2:26.35 which had been set by Colleen de Reuck at the 1996 Berlin Marathon in Germany. We also spoke to Irvette van Zyl who ended 13th with a time of 2:28.40 to obtain a qualifying standard for the Tokyo Olympics.
