EP 521 – Anti-Vaxxers to the Rescue

This Week in Mormons show

Summary: It's been a year since things got crazy with COVID, and the Sisters have much to reflect on in the process. Remember when many of us thought this would just last for a few weeks and life would return to normal?<br> <br> Coinciding with the COVID shutdown is the anniversary of the earthquake in Utah that seems to have become something of a cultural touchstone. <a href="https://www.deseret.com/faith/2021/3/18/22338011/salt-lake-temple-angel-moroni-dropped-trumpet-one-year-ago-today-where-is-it-now-lds" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Let us reflect on Moroni losing his trumpet</a>.<br> <br> Jana Riess managed to get an <a href="https://religionnews.com/2021/03/22/what-the-lds-church-wants-to-know-from-young-adult-mormons/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">inside scoop on a survey</a> the Church has sent out to young adults. The Church often sends out surveys to targeted groups, but a peek behind the curtain in this instance shows us what Church leadership is thinking about LGBTQ issues, Young Single Adult wards, and a bevy of other content. Really interesting.<br> <br> Did your kids participate in the <a href="https://www.thechurchnews.com/living-faith/2021-03-16/youth-music-festival-global-concert-a-great-work-206812" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Global Youth Music Festival</a>? What did they think? What did you think?<br> <br> ??<br> <br> In other music news, <a href="https://www.ldsliving.com/These-3-Latter-day-Saints-are-headed-to-Hollywood-Week-on-American-Idol-Watch-their-auditions-here/s/94074" target="_blank" rel="noopener">three Latter-day Saints have made it to Hollywood Week on American Idol</a>. They are better than the other contestants, you see. UPDATE: Who made it through to <a href="https://www.deseret.com/entertainment/2021/3/22/22344872/american-idol-hollywood-week-updates-who-made-it-through-to-duets-liahona-olayan-wyatt-pike-utah" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Duets</a>? WHO?<br> <br> A bike accident has left NBA legend and Latter-day Saint Shawn Bradley <a href="https://www.deseret.com/utah/2021/3/22/22344834/collision-with-van-sent-shawn-bradley-bike-parked-car-paralyzed-mavericks-byu-basketball-st-george" target="_blank" rel="noopener">paralyzed</a>. Terrible news.<br> <br> A Deseret News op-ed <a href="https://www.deseret.com/opinion/2021/3/16/22332136/the-danger-of-trading-religion-for-politics-faith-fanaticism-utah-governor-spencer-cox" target="_blank" rel="noopener">argues</a> Americans are replacing actual religion with politics. That's dangerous. Utah's governor, Spencer Cox, <a href="https://www.deseret.com/opinion/2021/3/11/22325872/utah-gov-spencer-cox-matt-lewis-podcast-politics-religion-entertainment-hr1-voting-rights-act" target="_blank" rel="noopener">also feels the same way</a>, even expressing disappointment with his fellow lawmakers' lunacy and failure to put forth good policy proposals while embracing tribalism.<br> <br> ?Are you getting a COVID vaccine? The prophet wants you to do so. A state senator, not wearing a mask, used his time at the lectern to ask fellow lawmakers to <a href="https://www.ktvb.com/mobile/article/news/local/208/idaho-lawmaker-matchmaker-daughter-politics/277-464902ad-c146-4afb-bd71-d2309a47ff76" target="_blank" rel="noopener">secure his daughter a date</a>.
