How To Talk To Your Children About Racism

The Jason Miller Better Health Podcast show

Summary: If we want to raise our children to be compassionate people who can contribute to society as responsible citizens, then we need to find ways to talk to our children about some of the thornier issues that we struggle with in this country. First of all, let me explain who I am. I am a white male trying to raise children in today’s world. I can’t possibly begin to understand what it must be like to be a black male trying to raise children in today’s world. I know that I don’t have to have the same conversations with my own children that a black man must have with his children, and I can’t even begin to understand what those conversations must be like. Demonstrations, sparked by the killing of George Floyd, have left many parents, myself included, trying to figure out how to talk to their children about the resulting protests and the events that led up to them. But how exactly do you do that? In this episode, I'll talk about some of the best ways for you to talk to your kids about racism and provide some valuable resource to help.
