006: Dyatlov Pass

Broken Mysteries show

Summary: Between February 1 or 2, 1959, a group of nine experienced Russian hikers died in the northern Ural Mountains. The circumstances…strange. All 9 of the bodies were discovered. After Soviet authorities examined the bodies it was determined that 6 of the hikers died from hypothermia, but 3 of the hikers died from inexplicable physical trauma – including a fractured skull, major chest fractures, and even one of the bodies was missing both eyes. The scene of their death includes a scene of their tent being cut open from the inside, the group apparently left their tent unprepared for the sub-zero temparatures to die in the cold. A view of the tent as the rescuers found it on February 26, 1959: the tent had been cut open from the inside, and most of the hikers had fled the tent in socks or barefoot.
