Summary: 1. Public opinion can be static for years, and then something changes. That’s what happened with public opinion support for gay marriage—support was static for years, and then, one day, things changed. Similarly, over the past few weeks, public opinion for Black Lives Matter has shifted dramatically. Can we now imagine real change in race relations in America? 2. In 2016, Kim Foxx ran for State’s Attorney against an incumbent who had drawn criticism in the wake of the Laquan McDonald murder. This year, she won her bid for re-election after a bitter primary campaign. The Indivisible Chicago Alliance endorsed her in this race. And then came the pandemic, and then the George Floyd murder and subsequent outpouring of grief and rage.
