Beer Styles # 69 - South German-Style Hefeweizen

Craft Beer Storm show

Summary: South German-Style Hefeweizen

-Color – Straw to amber

-Clarity: If served with yeast, appearance may be very cloudy.

-Perceived Malt Aroma & Flavor: Very low to medium-low

-Perceived Hop Aroma & Flavor: Not present to very low

-Perceived Bitterness: Very Low

-Body : Medium to full

-Additional notes: These beers are made with at least 50 percent malted wheat. Hefeweizens are very highly carbonated. These beers are typically (though not always) roused during pouring, and when yeast is present, they will have a yeasty flavor and a
characteristically fuller mouthfeel.

-ABV: 4.9%-5.6%

-Glassware: Weizen Glass- (Description courtesy of BeerAdvocate.com) - Nothing beats serving your Weizenbier (wheat beer) in an authentic Bavarian Weizen Glass. These classy glasses, with their thin walls and length, showcase the beer's color and allows for much headspace to contain the fluffy, sexy heads association with the style. Most are 0.5L in size, with slight variations in sizes. Forget the lemon garnish, the citric will kill the head.

Benefits: Specifically produced to take on volume and head, while locking in the banana-like and phenol aromas associated with the style.

Examples – GABF Winners 2019

Gold Medal: Prosperity Wheat - Market Garden Brewery - Production Brewery – Cleveland OH

ABV 6.0 %

Notes: Formerly known as ***** Street Wheat! If you’ve ever spent time in a German Beer Garden, you know how much they love their wheat beer. Our Bavarian style Hefeweizen is a satisfying blend of sweet wheat and pale malts, clove and banana aromatics, and the zesty tang of wheat beer yeast.

Silver Medal: Hug Deal Gone Sideweiss - Gezellig Brewing Co.- Newton, IA

ABV 5.8 %

Notes: Welcome Hug Deal Gone Sideweiss Hefeweizen to the Gezellig lineup! We've been digging German brews lately and woah buddy do we have another fun one for you! Using old and not so old world techniques we coaxed out an almost silly amount of banana aroma out of our yeast. Rest assured the classic vanilla, clove, and your grandpappy's bread pudding are all in the mix as well. We think it's truly delicious. So what does the name mean? No one knows what it means! But it's provocative! It gets the people going!

Craft Beer Storm Website: www.craftbeerstorm.com

If your Company, Hotel or Restaurant wants to book a CraftBeer Weekend or Craft Beer Evening for your guests or employees send an email to Michael@craftbeerstorm.com

Linked In: https://www.linkedin.com/in/craft-beer-storm-podcast-30776075/

Subscribe to Craft Beer Storm Podcast iTunes:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/craft-beer-storm/id1438117278?mt=2

*** A Top 20 Podcast in Food on iTunes ***

Michael Potorti is the Host of Craft Beer Storm and Founder/Brewer at Beara Brewing Co. in Portsmouth, NH

*** Interested in starting your own brewery?
