Homesteading Mama: Whitney Athayde on Natural, Home Births & Farm Life

Worth Your Time show

Summary:

Whitney Athayde dreams of eating and living fully off her farm, where she’s raising three kids (and about to give birth to her fourth ) — and her lifestyle is fascinating.

In today’s conversation, Whitney and I chat about homesteading (which she defines!), natural, home births, why she ultimately chose to live organically and how caring for the earth and her kids is how she lives out her faith. Whitney says:

“My husband and I both pray every day to be good stewards of the land, the children and the resources given to us. This is how we personally have chosen to glorify God…to show we are going to take really good care of this little corner of the earth we have been given and these children we have been giving. Stewarding is a really important part of my faith — being intention in general.”

We also dive into a conversation about grief and how Whitney processed the tragic death of her mother, who she was extremely close to. I was impressed and inspired by some of the resources and thoughts she mentioned. If you’ve ever had to deal with grief — and you certainly will if you haven’t — you’ll want to hear what she has to say. She mentions in this episode: “We’re called to grieve to differently and we have a hope and joy that will come for us.”

I respect Whitney’s beautiful approach to life and how she has shifted to ensure she’s living in a way that makes her proud and respects the foundational principles she holds as a human being. She’s eating eggs from her own backyard, cleaning with Thieves oil, trying her hand at bee-keeping and spending her days growing these amazing human beings — and you’re gonna love her personality to boot.
