35 - How to stay safe online - Level One

Six Minute Sex Ed show

Summary: Welcome back to Six Minute Sex Ed, the podcast that helps families talk about sex and relationships, hosted by Sex Education teacher, Kim Cavill: https://www.teaandintimacy.com/ This episode is level one and we’re going to talk about how to stay safe online The internet and virtual worlds can be so much fun. There’s lots of games to play, things to learn, videos to watch, songs to listen to, and people to meet. The internet helps us do so many things! Just like real life, though, not everything and everyone online has good intentions. Tricky people use the internet just as much as trustworthy people use the internet and it’s important to learn how to keep yourself safe online just like it’s important to learn how to look both ways before crossing a street in real life. It’s also important to learn how to be a good person online, just like It’s important to learn how to be a good person in real life. Those are the two things we’re going to focus on today: how to stay safe and how to be kind. One of my favorite websites for learning about online safety is common sense media and they have a really great list of online safety guidelines for parents, caring adults, and kids to use together. There are many, many examples of family internet contracts online.
