Summary: Dortmunder or German-Style Oktoberfest

A.Subcategory: Dortmunder/European-Style Export

(Description courtesy of Beer Advocate)

Sometimes referred to as a “Dortmunder export,” the European-Style Export has the malt-forward flavor and sweetness of a German-style Helles, but the bitter base of a German-style Pilsener. This lager is all about balance, with medium hop character and firm but low malt sweetness. Look for toasted malt flavors and spicy floral hop aromas.

-Color – Straw to Deep Golden

-Clarity: Appearance should be bright; chill haze should not be present

- Perceived Malt Aroma & Flavor: Sweet malt character should be low and should not be caramelly

- Hop Aroma and Flavor: Very low to low, derived from noble-type hops.

Perceived Bitterness : Medium

-Four Noble Hops
oHallertauer Mittelfrüh.
oTettnang.
oSpalt.
oSaaz.

-Body: Medium

-ABV: 4.0%-4.8%

Glassware: Pilsner Glass or Pokal - Typically a tall, slender and tapered 12-ounce glass, shaped like a trumpet at times, that captures the sparkling effervesces and colors of a Pils while maintaining its head.
