FFF28 - mTor, Protein, Ketones, and Insulin w/ Dr. Bikman

The Fat Fueled Family Podcast show

Summary: This weeks guest received his Bachelor of Science in exercise science and Master of Science in Exercise Physiology from BYU. He then got his PHD in Bioenergetics from East Carolina University. He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship with the Duke-National University of Singapore in metabolic disorders, and now he is back at BYU where he runs the Laboratory of Obesity and Metabolism. His research focus is to elucidate the molecular mechanisms that mediate the disruption that causes and accompanies metabolic disorders, such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, and dementia. Driven by his academic training, he is currently exploring the contrasting roles of insulin and ketones as key drivers of metabolic function. He frequently publishes his research in peer-reviewed journals and presents at international science meetings. I will add that in my personal opinion, if you want to find out more about insulin’s many roles, you need to follow this man on social media! He is always sharing interesting research and it’s not always about insulin only. He is also a family man and a fellow comic book fan, welcome to the show, Dr. Benjamin Bikman.
