Ozarks Tonight: High School Students Training To Learn Mental Health & Addiction Signs

Summary: In this Ozarks Tonight, Jenifer Abreu talks to Rikki Barton, the director of prevention services at Community Partnership of the Ozarks, about a new program coming to a high school here in Springfield. The goal is to teach students how to identify and respond to signs of mental health issues among their peers. This is a pilot program and a partnership between Community Partnership of the Ozarks, Springfield Public Schools, the National Council for Behavioral Health and Lady Gaga's Born This Way Foundation. It's the first Teen Mental Health First Aid pilot program in the country. Eight cities are participating and Springfield Public Schools selected Kickapoo to launch the pilot program. The pilot program aims at teaching students to recognize signs of mental health issues or addiction issues and how to ask for help.
