Summary: This is the second episode in our Psychology of the Characterization series. Our premise is that the three leads of the sequel trilogy: Rey, Kylo, and Finn, share the same core conflict which develops in different ways because of their individual character traits, life situations/environments. In this episode we focus on Finn's struggle with childhood trauma, the loss of his identity and his successful use of mature defense mechanisms to form healthy relationships and find a sense of purpose. While we appreciate the elegant resolution of some of Finn's conflict in The Last Jedi, we feel that overall his character has been underwritten and hope for further development of his arc in Episode IX.
