Episode 10: A Chance to Give Back

Clothed In The Lamb show

Summary: Show notes Episode 10 of Clothed in the Lamb is sponsored by Audible.com. Check out two great offers for our listeners here! This will be the last episode of Clothed In The Lamb Season 1. I will be taking a hiatus during the month of April, and our regular podcast schedule will resume on May 5, 2011. Upcoming Events: One June 25-26, artist Allison Smith will present Piece Work at the Denver Museum of Contemporary Art. As part of this, on Saturday, the 26th, two teams of fiber artists from The Recycled Lamb, including yours truly, will present a sheep-to-shawl demonstration and competition. The Estes Park Wool Market will be June 9-12. Carin, from Round the Twist, I really hope you can come and join me for a podcaster meet-up there! And I hope to see many of you at these two events. Yarnin': I've picked up my Master Handknitter swatches again, completing swatches 8-12 this week! I found some Cascade Venezia on sale at The Recycled Lamb and snapped up two off-white skeins. I am still knitting Second Spring in Frog Tree Alpaca Sport. This pattern will be available in April. I have nearly finished my second boot topper from my Aspen Tam and Toppers pattern. I test knitted the Flower Hat by Ewelina Murach and enjoyed it very much! I am devising a dishcloth pattern using the reversible intarsia technique. Thanks to Arielluria for the idea! That pattern will also be available in April. The Aspen Tam Knit-A-Long is a go! Visit the thread and join us any time! How'd Ya Do That?: How to hand-wind a center-pull ball without a nostepinne. I learned this technique through Knitting Daily, a wonderful, free e-zine that I highly recommend. Adventures in Listening: I really enjoyed Stephanie Pearl-McPhee Casts Off: The Yarn Harlot's Guide to the Land of Knitting, and I share some of the parts I enjoyed. Remember, Audible.com has two great offers for Clothed In The Lamb listeners. You can find out more about both of those here. In My Opinion: We are so blessed to be able to give back. So this week, I'm announcing a contest which will allow us to do just that. Anyone who makes a donation to any charity supporting the relief effort following the Japan earthquake and tsunami is eligible to win one of several prizes. Just go to the Japan Disaster Relief Contest thread in the Clothed In The Lamb group on Ravelry.com, post in the thread that you have made a donation, and you will be entered. Additionally, anyone who purchases any pattern from which proceeds are being donated to the relief effort is also invited to post in the thread. The Rose of Sharing pattern by Mary Jo Colwell is one such pattern. Prizes include: a copy of Debbie Bliss's Design It Knit It, a copy of my Aspen Tam and Toppers pattern, and a copy of my Second Spring pattern (available in April). If you would like to donate a prize to this contest, please e-mail me at podcast@clothedinthelamb.com, or send me a personal message on Ravelry.com. Winners will be required to submit verification of their charitable contribution or purchase. This contest will end on April 30, 2011. Winners will be announced on the podcast on May 5, 2011. Mandarin Minute: This episode's word, zaijian, means "goodbye," or more specifically, "See you again."  Both syllables are pronounced in the fourth tone. Lovely: I'm really beginning to like the new Adopt a Topic thread on Ravelry.com. We have adopted two threads: ravelry noob and You know you've become a knitter. Visit the forum and join us by posting in these threads! On May 12 from 6-8 pm, I will be teaching a class at The Recycled Lamb. The class is called Unraveling Ravelry and will assist those who wish to enhance their Ravelry experience. For more information, visit The Recycled Lamb in person or online, or call them at 303-234-9337. Prayer Shawl: We pray for the people of Japan following the recent earthquake and tsunami. My friend Fred, who is 91, is ailing. I have a friend named Amy whose husband has stage 4 melanoma.
