#189: Alex Charfen–The Deceiving Effects of Adderall, Stimulants and Other Performance Enhancers
Summary: <a href="http://www.success101podcast.com/189">www.success101podcast.com/189</a><br> <br> According to the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), there has been an almost 40% increase in the amount of prescriptions allowed for "performance enhancers" since 2007, and in more recent years, abuse of Adderall and its imitators has increased by nearly 200%. Adderall is abused mostly by college students and young adults, and estimates are that somewhere between 20-30 percent of college students regularly abuse Adderall.<br> <br> Calling it an “upper” is like calling a hydrogen bomb a grenade. It is made of pure amphetamine, and has already picked up its share of street monikers: Speed, Beans, Black Beauties, Christmas Trees, and Double Trouble, among others.<br> <br> There are potential pluses in this "wonder-drug" if used properly, such as increased concentration. However, it also keeps people awake for hours on end, while providing a unique sense of euphoria and happiness.
