INDIVISIBLE CHICAGO PODCAST SHOW NOTES AND ACTIONS FOR JULY 30, 2018 Segment 1 — This week, Tom talked to three women running for office in DuPage County for the first time. The men they are running against have run unopposed, but not this year. Find out how you can get involved in their campaigns. Laura Ellman is running for Illinois State Senate. Find out more about her campaign at ellmanforillinois.com. Val Montgomery is running for Illinois State Representative — valmontgomeryil41.org. Lynn LaPlante is running for DuPage County Board Chair — helplynnwin.org. Segment 2 — In June, a woman wearing a Puerto Rican flag t-shirt was accosted in Caldwell Woods on the Northwest side by a man who was subsequently charged with a felony hate crime. A video of the confrontation—including a Forest Preserve officer doing nothing to help—went viral. Neighbors are responding by organizing Peace in the Preserves, in the spot where the alleged hate crime occured—an event that calls for unity and is a celebration of cultural diversity and a rejection of racism. Engy Sutherland and Al Grippe from the Northwest Side Coalition against Racism and Hate join the podcast to discuss the event, which is happening on August 3. Details on Facebook.
