Summary: While walking out of a Wall to Wall (Pharris Funkin Thomas, DJ Lil John etc) Mendel party, soaking wet, rockin Willie Wear & Zodiac’s. I was handed a flyer that said Frankie Knuckles at Mendel Bi-Level next week. I asked a friend of my older cousin, Mendel Alum George Brown (G-Whip), who is Frankie Knuckles? He shook his head in my ignorance & explained. I went to hear Frankie play that night. I couldn’t believe how I felt after hearing his set. That moment in time, Changed my life! Frankie Knuckles along with my cousins Reggie (Dj Boxx), Marcellus, & Kevin Anderson, inspired me to DJ. Christmas of 85 I got my first set of turntables (Technics SLB 200′s & a Gemini mixer with wooden trim). That’s when it all started for me, so Frankie Knuckles really changed my life. If I hadn’t heard & felt that energy that night in Mendel’s gymnasium in the bleachers, I don’t have any idea what I would be doing today. I’m glad I was able to experience hearing & feeling the work of this DJ/Producer genius known as Frankie Knuckles. Rest in Peace, thank you so much!!! Boolu
