Episode 27: Rebekah Saltzman, Professional Organizer & Founder of Balagan Be Gone

Jewish Money Matters show

Summary:
B”H
I hope every one is enjoying the holiday of Sukkot! Later this week we culminate the festivities with the Holiday of Simchat Torah. In a way we’re entering the last stretch of the month of Tishrei and towards this time I start wanting to get my life back into a routine. For me that always translates into organizing, decluttering, paying attention to my spaces, my home etc. Yup, I always go through this process right after Tishrei. So it’s not a coincidence that to indulge my organizing urges, and to teach all of us how to be more organized, I have Rebekah Saltzman on the show. Rebekah is a Professional Organizer and Founder of Balagan Be Gone!
Isn’t that a great name? Rebekah holds a degree in fashion design from Parsons School of Design, and for many years worked as a graphic designer. Rebekah’s passion for the environment and helping people improve their lives, drove her to change careers paths and create Balagan Be Gone. As you will see from today’s interview Rebekah has a straightforward approach to managing “stuff” and a no-nonsense ability to get to the heart of what is important. She really is a master at helping people get control of their lives through organization, even those who are most untrained in this area.

What is Rebekah’s take on my urge to organize right after Tishrei? And why freeing up physical space this time of year might actually be a wonderful thing? A rather spiritual perspective which I think you will appreciate as much as I did. Is organization an inborn trait or a learned skill? Rebekah tells us today. Rebekah is a proponent of a Zero-Waste Life. What is that? What does that look like, especially if you have an observant Jewish family? We talk about time management – always a hot issue in most women’s lives and how to use automation to save us time especially with those tasks that we do enjoy. In fact, Rebekah made a handy dandy video for us on one of her favorite automation tools. Lots of practical tips in this interview, and to my delight, many which I had never heard before. And if you’re a skeptic and you think, “thank you very much but my ‘organized chaos’ serves me just fine,” Rebekah might be able to help you re-think that and re-shape your attitude.
