Summary: Amateur sleuth and true crime journalist Michelle McNamara became obsessed with solving a violent cold case of a serial rapist turned murderer who terrorized California for over a decade in the 70s and 80s. She poured over police reports, interviewed victims, and embedded herself in the online communities that were as obsessed with the case as she was. Just as Michelle was gaining progress in her investigation and writing a book, a sudden death derailed everything.
