Summary: <p>As I grew up I longed for my dad's affirmation - a well done, I'm proud of you - and some of my most precious memories are of exactly those things. This longing for affirmation is built deep into each of us - we are created to know the Father's love and hear his voice saying 'You bring me great joy.'</p><br> <p>Jesus receives this affirmation at his baptism. And yet he is then sent by the Holy Spirit out into the wilderness to be tested by Satan. What is that all about? In the wilderness we learn what it means to be-loved, to be the beloved, without being able to 'do' anything for God.</p><br> <p>This sermon explores the identity we share as children of God and the affirmation and delight of our heavenly Father.
