Sitting At The Feet Of Giants show

Summary: In this episode of Sitting At The Feet of Giants, Tina Brinkley Potts interviews Derek Berman. You may not know Derek Berman. For starters, he worked under a stage name when he was part of the rock and roll group The Echoes in the 60's. This band played with some notables: Conway Twitty and the Beatles (or actually the Beatles opened for the Echoes). Pretty Cool. The great part is Derek was also an instrumental part to the rise of house and rap music in Chicago. Derek Berman discusses: * Olivia Newton John * Dolly Parton * The Beatles * Billy Joel * How to Be Happy * And so much more! A Rock and Roll trendsetter, who not only performed with some of the most legendary rock artists, but played an integral part in the rise of House and Rap music. Derek grew up in London, England where at the age of 20 he joined The Echoes, a rock ’n roll band — playing back-up for such 60’s legends as: Jerry Lee Lewis, Conway Twitty, The Four Seasons, Dusty Springfield, Freddy Cannon, Rodger Wittaker, Lulu, The Monkees, Roy Orbison, Cat Stevens, Kiki Dee, and many others. The Echoes played at the famed Cavern Club in Liverpool, where one week prior to the release of “I Wanna Hold Your Hand,” The Beatles played as The Echoes’ warm-up band! Other world-renowned stages Derek has graced are, The London Palladium, London’s Royal Festival Hall, The Olympia Paris, and Teatro Volturno in Rome. Since leaving The Echoes, Derek worked as a recording engineer in both the UK and US. He has run several theatrical booking/management agencies and booked big name celebrities such as Tom Jones, Englebert Humperdinck and Anne Murray. Additionally, Derek partnered with Bob Tarantino, head of promotions at A&M Records, who was responsible for promoting showstoppers, Sting, The Go Go’s and The Carpenters! They were instrumental at the beginning of House and Rap in Chicago managing Fast Eddie, Frankie “Hollywood” Rodriguez and top House and Rap DJ’s with hits too numerous to mention. Derek feels very fortunate to have interacted with countless celebrities and high-profile individuals while living and working in many different parts of the world. He has always had a strong interest in people and has consistently tried to observe their habits, attitudes and how they cope with life’s various situations. He found that whatever people believe is true for them, but those beliefs are not true for everyone. In fact, everyone has different beliefs and those beliefs shape their individual lives. Our beliefs were never our own because they have been passed on to us by parents, teachers and authority figures. We may think they are set in stone, but it is possible to change them. And, we can create a better life by changing beliefs that don’t serve us well. The Book of Life offers sound, practical ideas and useful exercises on creating a better life, which are presented in an easy to read manner. You’ll gain understanding, enabling you to break free of beliefs that are holding you back. The Book of Life can literally change your life. This is not a book to create wealth, lose weight, find the right partner, etc. This is a book to create joy by helping people be happy with whatever they have so that they can be successful in life with whatever they do. My purpose in writing The Book of Life is to banish fear so that life can become magical!
