Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu came to international prominence in the martial arts community in the early 1990s, when Black belt Royce Gracie won the first, second and fourth Ultimate Fighting Championships.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu focuses on grappling and ground fighting to promote the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant using leverage. Often this includes, taking the fight to the ground and applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the opponent. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu training is used by the average person every day for self-defense, law enforcement, and military combatives, mixed martial arts (MMA) competitions and sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi). Non-compliant sparring (commonly referred to as “rolling”) and repetitive drilling play a major role in training.

Our Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt instructors, Billy Dowey, Jason Culbreth, and Ryan Schmidt all received their belts directly from Royce Gracie. As the leader in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu training around the Triangle, we regularly hold special seminars with guest instructors. We have had the pleasure of hosting seminars with Dave Camarillo, Rodrigo Gracie, former UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Serra, World Jiu-Jitsu Champion Carlos Lemos, Jr., just to name a few. We regularly hold seminars with Royce Gracie as well.
