The Rise of Streaming Content And Female-Driven Stories

Motherhood in Hollywood show

Summary: My guest this week is a huge part of the reason why people are abandoning traditional cable outlets in favor of streaming content. Carolyn Newman was the Executive In Charge of Development and Production at Amazon Studios before getting scooped up as the Vice President of Scripted Programming at Entertainment One (The Walking Dead, Fear The Walking Dead). Now at Entertainment One she tells me she's using her experience to find and develop great content with female-driven stories. There's been a big push in recent years to have more women working in front of and behind the camera, but Newman says it's not enough. She wants to do more. She wants the gritty, unusual, unique stories that reflect the diversity of women in the world and she finds them in books, short stories and through established writers.
