Summary: The Context of White Supremacy hosts the debut study session on Vincent Woodard's The Delectable Negro: Human Consumption and Homoeroticism within US Slave Culture. The text was published posthumously in 2014. Mr. Woodard, a historian and professor, died in 2008. NYU Press explains the void this book was designed to fill; "Scholars of US and transatlantic slavery have largely ignored or dismissed accusations that Black Americans were cannibalized." Woodard excavates primary sources, like the writings of Frederick Douglass and Harriet Jacobs, as well as black newspapers and slave bills from the antebellum period. The book examines the the execution of freedom fighter Nat Turner - which allegedly included Whites removing Turner's skin as a prize to be dispersed. "The Delectable Negro explores these connections between homoeroticism, cannibalism, and cultures of consumption in the context of American literature and US slave culture." We'll connect Woodard's work with modern manifestations of this element of White culture - like convicted serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer or the delicious "black man cookies". #AnswersForMiriamCarey INVEST in The COWS - http://paypal.me/GusTRenegade CALL IN NUMBER: 641.715.3640 CODE 564943#
