History vs Reality. What was life really like in 1840s Ireland?

Irish History Podcast show

Summary: Many travellers who visited the west of Ireland in the 19th century considered it as a frontier of sorts. They were more often than not deeply racist, yet we still rely heavily on their accounts to reconstruct a picture of life at the time. In this show I question how reliable their accounts are. In an effort to create a more vivid picture of life in the 1840s I have interviewed with two archaeologists - Franc Myles and Eve Campbell for this show. You can support the show at patreon.com/irishpodcast You can contact me at info@irishhistorypodcast.ie www.facebook.com/irishhistorypodcast www.twitter.com/irishhistory

See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
