As we are to be holy, we are to be set apart, consecrated, for the service to God.<br> Between holiness, sin, and sanctification, people and the church take some more seriously than other. People can sometimes use sanctification as an excuse. “Well, I sin, but God is still working on me.” Part of sanctification is growing in our hatred of sin. As we are more sanctified, how we respond to sin will change as we’ll grieve and mourn over our sin more as we become more holy.<br> Holy comes from an ancient word that means cut apart or a cut above. Separate from the world as Israel was called to look different from the world.<br> <br> <br> <br> <br> 09:31 Segment 1 begins<br> <br> Why are we talking about holiness in a discipleship podcast? The intentional relationship about which we talked in our first episode, the point is to grow in holiness and obedience. .<br> We walk through Ephesians 4:17-24 to show a little about holiness. We are commanded to walk no longer as the gentiles. We are not to be futile minded and have our understanding darkened. We use a number of Scripture to help avoid the trap of being “Holier than thou”. We are not longer to supposed to walk as “those people” but also, as we once were. The only difference between them and us is we have Christ.<br> Paul is assuming discipleship is going on. You can see that in verses 22 to 24. Here, he introduces the concept of putting off the former life and putting on the new life.<br> This is a big reason why we need discipleship. We need to know what to put off, and then, what to put on. For instance, if you live a life marked by lying, you need to stop lying. However, that is not enough. You need to then start telling the truth.<br> The team discusses how people today focus so much on God being love that they lose sight of His holiness. Maybe that comes from our fear of God’s holiness. We look at the story of Jesus and His disciples on a boat in the Sea of Galilee where Jesus calms the storm and how the disciples seem to be more frightened of the holiness of this man Jesus, and less afraid of the storm.<br> <br> <br> <br> <br> 23:44 Segment 2 begins<br> <br> We continue looking at our flippant attitude towards sin. Discipleship is helping each other become more holy. How we will deal with sin will change as we grow.<br> The discipleship relationship allows us to have someone of the outside looking in to help us deal with sin.<br> We disciss the tendancy we have to focus on a single attribute of God to the determent of the rest of His attributes.<br> John J. talks about how in an effort to balance out the world focusing on God’s love, he tries too hard to focus on God’s holiness. This makes it difficult to have the loving relationship that God wants us to have with Him. It is pointed out this is why it is important that Christians preach the gospel to themselves as well as others.<br> In Ephesians 4:11-15, Paul talks about various gifts to equip the saints for work on ministry to build up the body of Christ. This is why it is important to use your gifts. Even if you think they are not useful, God uses these gifts to edify the body and help them conform into the likeness of Christ.<br> So why is this important?
