Summary: ?Psalm 119:17–24; Romans 8:1–11; 12:1–2 The sermon is followed by a reflection from Lisa Delity, Chairperson of Heeding God's Call to End Gun Violence. __ Our preacher this Sunday is the Rev. Dr. James E. “Jim” Atwood. After nine years as a missionary in Japan, Jim was Pastor of two churches in Northern Virginia: Grace Presbyterian of Springfield, and Trinity Presbyterian of Arlington, from which he retired in 1999 as Pastor Emeritus. In retirement, Jim and his wife, Roxana, attended Western Church and they have many friends in the congregation. He served as Chair of the DC Chapter of Heeding God’s Call for three years before moving to the Sunnyside Retirement Community in Harrisonburg, Va. ?He has written two books on gun violence prevention: “America and Its Guns: A Theological Expose” (2012), and “Gundamentalism and Where It is Taking America” (2017). __ Lisa Delity is an educator in our area and chairperson of the Greater Washington Chapter of Heeding God’s call to end gun violence. She is the organizer behind the “Memorial to the Lost” T-shirts for victims of gun violence in our region, now in its fourth year.
