Parenting A Teenager: Mental Hospitals

Sip and Shine Podcast show

Summary: In this day and age, we are seeing more and more teenagers suffering from mental illness and prescription drug addictions. We see a generation that has a lot more pressures: college, online personas as well as pressure to perform in academics and sports. Parents have become very much helicopter parents- trying to do better for their kids than what they had in their in own childhoods. This is the story of a teenager who spent 3 years in and out of mental hospitals- that accumulated to 15 hospital stays- some for longer than six months from the age of 13-16. This boy suffered from anxiety and PTSD- which led to multiple suicide attempts and to experiment with drugs. This story can happen to any parent. This is the episode that forces you to hear what is going on with teenagers as well as what you should known as a parent when trusting the medical system.
