Episode 21 - Sue Voegtlin and Tracy Trevethan

Sit & Sew Radio show

Summary: Welcome to Episode 21 of Sit & Sew Radio, a Quilt Addicts Anonymous podcast. Today we have some fun guests that will give you lots of great ideas for your next quilting and sewing projects. First up is Sue Voegtlin, the author of Block Genius: 201 pieced quilt blocks with No Math charts. The book breaks down 201 new and historic quilt blocks and show you how to make each one in three sizes with no math required. Then we have Tracy Trevethan on. She hand dyes wool for her company Tracy Trevethan designs. The colors are very rich and bright, giving the wool a more modern look than the primitives you may be used to seeing at quilt shops. So we talk about her dying process and a super cute pumpkin pin cushion project she has made from wool. They’re super cute and would make a great centerpiece on your Thanksgiving table. There's also lots going on over at Quilt Addicts Anonymous this week. The November Block of the Month pattern was released earlier this week. This is a free pattern download so click here (http://shop.quiltaddictsanonymous.com/product/november-2016-block-of-the-month/) to get your pattern and make the Stars in the Night Quilt. We just have one month left, in this year’s quilt so I’m really excited to be almost done with this quilt. You can still sign up for the Kaleidoscope Block of the Month, which kicks off in January. This Block of the Month will be shipped in monthly installments, where you’ll pay a monthly fee and I’ll ship you fabric one month at a time. This will make the kit really affordable so you all can make a king-sized quilt without breaking the budget. Signups close on November 15, 2016, so click here (http://shop.quiltaddictsanonymous.com/product/kaleidoscope-block-of-the-month/) to sign up. There also are a few fabric bundles left from Sample Spree at Market. These are fabric bundles from brand new fabric lines, some of them won’t be released for months, so go click here (http://shop.quiltaddictsanonymous.com/product-category/pre-cuts-and-bundles/sample-spree/) to check it out and add some to your stash. They’re really fun.   Sue Voegtlin, author/quilt photographer Sue Voegtlin is the photographer at Landauer Publishing and she raised her hand when the editorial team decided they needed to put out a block book. Two-hundred and one blocks later, "Block Genius: 201 pieced quilt blocks with No Math charts" was born. It contains instructions on how to make all the blocks in the book in three different sizes with no math. So we chat about why this book needs to be in your quilting library, how Sue went from the warehouse to behind the camera at Landauer and tips for taking beautiful photos of your quilts. Check out your local quilt shop to see if they have "Block Genius," or click here (http://landauerpub.com/block-genius.html) to buy it online.   Tracy Trevethan, Hand Dyed Wool Fabrics I met Tracy at Spring Quilt Market earlier this year and when I saw her again at Fall Quilt Market, I knew I had to get her on the podcast. I am not normally a wool girl. The primitive colors just don’t do much for me. But Tracy’s wool is different. You can get more of the traditional colors,
