Summary: On April 10th, 1940, over 20,000 Polish civilians and captured Polish officers were driven from their Soviet Red Army internment camps and driven to a remote spot in the Katyn Forest where they were executed one by one with a bullet to the back of the head. They were lawyers, professors, clergymen, writers, poets, journalists, officers of the Polish Army, business owners-men and women whose only crime was that were successful and they loved their country. The 8% who were Jews were already marked for death. They were all considered potential spoilers of Stalin's new soviet regime, which would convert Poland to socialism and keep it crushed in its iron grip for another 60 years, surpressing every part of Polish culture. In addition to this act being of one the most heinous war crimes in history, the Soviets attempted to cover up the truth of this mass genocide by blaming the Germans, and with Allied help, were able to accomplish this. Part one deals with the Nazi and Soviet invasion of Poland and the subsequent genocide.
