025: The Power of (Your) Words

How Does She Do It? | Practical Insight & Honest Perspective on Being Grown show

Summary: The power of words is something we often underestimate and seldom take advantage. That’s my main topic on this episode and I’m thankful that you’ve joined me. You can make an incredible difference, in your own life and in the lives of others by paying closer attention to the words you speak. I was recently inspired by a sermon that focused on the words individuals spoke to themselves in response to God’s activity in their lives. I wanted to share how I’m applying what I learned to my own life and give you some tools that you might be able to apply to your own. I think you’ll enjoy the topic and find something that will enable you to be blessed and to be a blessing.
[spp-tweet tweet=”On this episode: The power of words and 5 kinds of words you can use to speak power into your life”]
The Gorilla and The Child
The energy and passion in response to the regrettable killing of an endangered gorilla at the Cincinnati Zoo after to a boy climbing into its cage has been surprising in some ways. While we should work to protect species that are endangered, I also understand the those who are concerned for the safety and life of child. When it comes to comparing the value of a human life and that of an animal, I have a very clear opinion on what the choice should be. You can hear my thoughts on the situation and the way I believe we should think about similar incidents on this episode.
Roots, The Series, and The Roots, The Band
I promise didn’t plan this: I have two stories related to the word “roots” – the upcoming television drama based on Alex Haley’s amazing book, and the band, “The Roots” who play nightly on Jimmy Fallon’s late night show. I wanted to share my thoughts on the issue of slavery and the importance of dramas and presentations that clearly depict that portion of our history, and the incredible experience it was to attend the Roots Picnic where the band played with Usher (who was amazing!).
[spp-tweet tweet=”It’s easy to be weighed down when things aren’t going right. Think back to the things significant adults said to you growing up – negative or positive. Now, take a moment to consider the impact those words had on you. I suspect you are able to find instances where both helpful and hurtful words were spoken, and some of those may still have a significant impact in your life for good or ill. The power of words can’t be underestimated. I’ve recently come to a decision about how I am going to speak words that create greater opportunities for success in my own life and bring about greater blessing in the lives of others. I hope you’ll take the time to listen to what I’m learning and find how you can apply the concept to your own life.
5 Kinds Of Powerful Words You Should Choose For Your Life
I wanted to offer 5 kinds of words I believe each of us need to learn to speak to ourselves put us into a place of opportunity rather than a place of disadvantage.
