Vol. 5, # 17: Featuring an MCA Dedication & Beastie Boys Megamix

Dope Joints! Hip Hop Podcast show

Summary: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Peace, @Large here. Firstly rest in peace to MCA. Our hearts go out to the Beastie Boys, their families, friends and everyone hurting in the wake of MCA's passing. This episode is our way of showing our love, support and thanks. Ever since MCA passed away I've had my iPod loaded up with Beastie Boys both in mourning and in preparation for this episode. As much as their music meant to me I had never listened to their entire discography in that fashion. So much of their music got major play from me over the years; from my first boom-box, my first walkman, my first car stereo and now on the turntables. Music that I listened to a lot tends to have memories attached to it. While I was jamming all these Beastie Boys tracks I was on the sweetest trip down memory lane recalling good times; parties, skateboarding, school, girls and friends. I like to think the mid-80s to the mid-90s was a special time. In my case it was a time where a dude my age's formative years were coinciding with great music. It was a crossroads where different cultures and scenes were coming into their own in my city (this was probably further along elsewhere). Young people suddenly had a lot of options when it came to style, hang-outs, activities and music. Remembering back to those years I can't think of a more appropriate sonic backdrop to my experiences then The Beastie Boys. Even with all these cultures and scenes moving off in their own directions, perhaps one thing that everyone could agree on was how awesome the latest Beastie Boys record was. Thank you to The Beastie Boys, your catalog and accomplishments are truly impressive! From bringing sounds together to create music to bringing people together to create peace. You've given us so much already, we sincerely hope you continue on. Special thanks to 007, Partridge and Rukus45 for visiting this night.
