Episode 12 - Chuck Billy (Testament)

Wonder Junkie Podcast - Pete Bailey show

Summary: Welcome to episode 12 of the Wonder Junkie Podcast featuring Chuck Billy of Testament. Anyone that knows me or has heard me on the radio over the years will know how much I love Testament, so, of course, I had to speak to Chuck when he was in town promoting the new album Brotherhood of the Snake. We talked about the new album and Chuck was very honest in that it was a difficult album to make and wouldn’t want to do it that way again but very happy with the outcome. I’ve listened to it myself and if you loved Dark Roots of Earth and The Formation of Damnation, you’ll love Brotherhood of the Snake. We didn’t just talk about the album, in fact, we talked about a lot of different things from Chucks Native American background to his battle with cancer, growing up in the bay area… and the time he turned down the opportunity to work with Gene Simmons because Gene thought “Metal was dead”, nice one Chuck. I’ve always thought that Testament has been one of thrash metal’s greatest underrated bands, how it was “The Big Four” and not “The Big Five” is beyond me. You won’t hear Chuck complain about this, though, from Dark Roots of Earth landing at number twelve on the Billboard 200 to sold-out shows and festivals around the world, this is truly Testament’s renaissance period and long may it continue.
