1250 Dan Redfeld: A Hopeful Place

Classical Music Discoveries show

Summary: American composer, conductor, orchestrator and producer Dan Redfeld has had his music and arrangements performed internationally from the concert hall to the musical theater stage to the recording studio. About his work “A Hopeful Place” Dan writes: “I was asked to compose a work for voice and chamber orchestra to be premiered by Ensemble Green, a Los Angeles based group of musicians committed to playing new concert pieces.  I immediately contacted John and proposed we collaborate on a work for Kristi Holden.  Fortunately for us both, she enthusiastically said “Yes!”  John and I quickly settled on a nine movement structure and the idea that the listener would follow a woman’s cycle of life from birth to death.” Concerning the debut performance Dan continues: “I conducted Kristi and eighteen musicians on that night in a premiere performance one cannot forget.  The entire evening was beset with a series of surreal events and yet we made it through to a prolonged standing ovation.  That night reflected what the piece is about - Life.  Sometimes its easy, sometimes its a struggle.  But the human spirit continues.
