Hype #110: Pottersplaining

Hypable's Hype show

Summary: Hype Podcast 110 tackles the “new Harry Potter books,” Zendaya’s Spider-Man casting, Hidden Figures, news of The Runaways, the Lost Boys reboot, and much more. Selina, Pam and Kristen break down this week’s biggest entertainment news this week. Of course the hot topic is J.K. Rowling’s new mock Hogwarts e-books (that may or may not be “new” Harry Potter books), and Spider-Man quietly being awesome by casting Zendaya as Mary-Jane. But there’s a lot of other cool news to get into as well, along with How We Hype, TV Show of the Week, and Listener Feedback. How We Hype: – Kristen saw and loved Pete’s Dragon – Pam has a music rec: Young The Giant’s Home of the Strange. News: – J.K. Rowling and Pottermore are publishing three new Harry Potter-related e-books that most definitely are not new at all – Zendaya is reportedly playing Mary Jane in Spider-Man: Homecoming, which is amazing, because she’s actually American unlike Tom Holland! Moving on… – Disney taps Lin Manuel Miranda, Alan Menken for live action Little Mermaid. Are we ever gonna get Lin fatigue? (Read: Never!) – Ben Whishaw may be joining the new Mary Poppins! Look around, look around – The Arrival trailer has Kristen excited, but Selina isn’t sold – We do love the first look at Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt in Passengers, which sounds like The Martian 2.0 – Another dynamic duo, Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga (!) sign on for A Star Is Born remake – Lady Gaga has also announced her new single – The Hidden Figures trailer blew us all away – A Guardians of the Galaxy writer is set to pen the live-action Pokémon movie. Wait, is this still a thing? – USA has renewed Mr. Robot for season 3 – Daredevil spin-off The Punisher could debut in 2017 after all – Marvel and Hulu are teaming up for The Runaways! – Netflix blames Gilmore Girls release schedule on fans, and we’re not having it – The CW is planning a Lost Boys reboot, but we’re not getting our hopes up yet — we’ve been burned before, cough Secret Circle cough. TV Show of the Week: – Kristen and Pam are watching the Olympics – Selina finished Stranger Things. We wrap up with Listener Feedback, in which we discuss upcoming Specials, praise Pam, and much more. Make sure to leave us feedback for next week’s show, along with the Gilmore Girls season 4 special, which is recording late Friday night!
