Summary: Today we chat with Eric Bright.Eric has confessed he is game crazy. He has to be game crazy as he speculates he has purchased more games than anyone over his 20-year career. He has developed his expertise as a buyer by working with such notable brands as GameStop, Walmart, the entertainment giant Viacom, Hollywood Video, Blockbuster, and even in the fashion apparel business with The Limited and May Company. Because of his work with Walmart and its $2.5B video game business, Eric was named in 2012 as “The 8th Most Powerful Person” in the video game industry by Kotaku magazine. It goes without saying that video games are Eric’s specialty. He is currently GameStop’s Senior Director of Merchandising and is responsible for creating the company’s merchandising strategy to include multiple and diverse gaming platforms for a diverse gaming customer base. He directs all lines of video game hardware, software, consumer electronics and mobile businesses. It’s safe to say that he’s seen the latest trends and is on the cutting edge of product development. And most recently, that includes the latest virtual reality trends and products. Virtual Reality is Now Reality at GameStop. GameStop aims to be THE destination for Virtual Reality. Key Quotes: GameStop CEO Paul Raines believes that virtual reality will be big business in the years ahead. As a part of his comments at the recent April 2016 Investors' Day conference, he said, "Analysts believe there could be 10 million VR users by the end of 2016, with hardware forecasts of $30 billion by 2020. GameStop is going to be the destination for VR." Virtual reality (VR) technology has become more and more accessible and recently mainstream. VR has been integrated into applications for travel, healthcare and education to socialmedia, film and video games. VR promises to change our relationship with what’s real, giving us otherwise impossible experiences and sensory escapades into the unknown. It will open up a new frontier in the industry for both developers and consumers. GameStop works with the device's creators to sell the headsets, as well as their games and accessories, in GameStop's network of stores around the world. We are uniquely positioned to help sell their devices and bring them to the masses. We believe we have a great way to bring VR to the world and that is our 40 million member strong PowerUp Rewards loyalty program – who we know wants VR. GameStop can do for virtual reality what we did with the launches of the consoles: make it possible for people of all ages to enjoy the magic of gaming. GameStop promises to be THE place where customers can learn about and demo this new technology. Once you try VR, the experience sells itself.
