Summary: Airtravel is hard; but, when you have a disability, it becomes almost like mission impossible. On Monday, June 23, 2014 at 8:28 am, we arrived at the Southwest Airlines terminal at Hartsfield Jackson International Airport. My partner has MS and uses a cane. Walking any distance is exhausing for her and standing in one place for an extended amount of time is impossible. So we always make sure that we clearly indicate PASSENGER NEEDS ASSISTANCE when we book her flights. What happened next was not only a comedy of errors but it made my blood boil enough to come home and develop a show on the topic. The Airline Carrier Access Act (ACAA) prohibits commercial airlines from discriminating against passengers with disabilities and also mandates that certain accommodations are provided.
