Summary: The "law of sin" makes us slaves. It forces us to do what we don't want to. It brings death. Those "in Christ Jesus" can be set free from the law of sin and death. Believers have power available through the law of the Spirit of life. The Spirit can bring life and peace. As believers, we now have a "freedom" choice. To walk according to the flesh or to walk according to the Spirit.
