Huge agribusiness corporations want to end labeling of beef. They don’t want you to know where your food comes from because imported beef is cheaper, their profit are higher, and it allows them to exert greater control over the beef market. It’s the independent rancher who is proud of his American beef who gets hurt first because his premium quality beef has to compete against lower standard beef from cheaper countries. Foreign countries want to export beef to the U.S. and they object that labeling beef as “Made in the USA” puts them at a competitive disadvantage. A WTO tribunal agrees and Congress, under the thrall of agribusiness money and lobbying, won’t help our own citizens. It’s horrible now and it will be even worse under TPP.
