Ότι έχει απομείνει από αυτή τη λαμπρή περίοδο βρίσκεται στο νομό Αργολίδας, απέναντι από τον Αργολικό Κόλπο. Όταν επισκεφθεί κανείς τον αρχαιολογικό χώρο, θα αντικρύσει πολλά μνημεία, που δείχνουν πόσο ξεχωριστός ήταν ο πολιτισμός. Ανάμεσα στα ερείπια της Αρχαίας πόλης, η ακρόπολη ξεχωρίζει; είχε κτιστεί σε στρατηγικό σημείο, στο σταυροδρόμι των οδών του Αργολικού κάμπου. Για την προστασία της, αλλά και των υπόλοιπων κτιρίων, τείχη κατασκευάστηκαν ολόγυρά τους, που ονομάζονται κυκλώπεια τείχη. Η ονομασία αυτή οφείλεται στις υπερμεγέθεις πέτρες από τις οποίες κτίστηκαν, μιας και για να μετακινηθούν απαιτούνται παρά πάνω από απλές ανθρώπινες δυνάμεις. Σε αυτά τα τείχη βρίσκεται και η μοναδική είσοδος, η πύλη των Λεόντων, που λέγεται έτσι από τα λιοντάρια - έμβλημα της πόλης που τη στόλιζαν. Εκτός από τα τείχη, εξαιρετικό ενδιαφέρον παρουσιάζουν και οι θολωτοί τάφοι, με πιο ξακουστό αυτόν του Αγαμέμνονα, βασιλιά της Αργολίδας, γνωστός και ως θησαυρό του Ατρέα. Ένας διάδρομος 36 μέτρων μήκους με κατηφορική κλίση και σκαμμένος στο βράχο οδηγεί στον τάφο. Ο θάλαμος αυτός, με διάμετρο 14,6 μέτρα και ύψος 13,4 μέτρα, είναι μια θαυμαστή κατασκευή. Μέσα σε αυτό το χώρο βρέθηκαν πολλά κοσμήματα και διακοσμήσεις, που πλέον φιλοξενούνται σε διάφορα μουσεία του κόσμου. Από τα πιο σημαντικά είναι η χρυσή μάσκα που αποδίδεται στον Αγαμέμνονα και πλέον εκτίθεται στο Αρχαιολογικό μουσείο της Αθήνας. Ο Αγαμέμνονας, που πολέμησε και στον Τρωικό πόλεμο, ανήκει στη δυναστεία των Ατρειδών, κατά την περίοδο των οποίων κτίστηκαν όλα αυτά τα θαυμαστά μνημεία. Γι' αυτό το λόγο άλλωστε την βασιλεία τους καλύπτει ένα πέπλο μυστηρίου. ----Formal English---- Mycenae Mycenae was a town of Ancient Greece where the Mycenaean civilization was born and prospered. Whatever is left from that glorious period exists at Argolis's prefecture, opposite to the Argolis Bay. When someone visits the archeological site, he will see many monuments that demonstrate how special the civilization was. Among the ancient town's ruins, the acropolis stands out; it has been built at a strategic point at the crossroad of the Argolis plain's streets. For its protection but also for the rest of the buildings, walls were constructed all around them, which are called "Gigantic Walls." This denomination is due to the oversized stones from which they were built, since more than simple human powers are demanded so as to move them. At these walls is situated the only entrance, the Lions' Gate, which is called that because of the lions—the emblem of the town that decorated it. Apart from the walls, exceptional interest is present in the dome tombs as well, with the most prestigious being the one of Agamemnon, also known as "Atreas's Thesaurus." A corridor of thirty-six meters in length with a downhill incline that is dug into the rock leads to the tomb. This chamber, which is 14.6 meters in diameter and 13.4 meters in height, is an admirable construction. In that space, many jewels and ornaments were found that are now hosted at various museums of the world. Among the most important is a golden mask, which is attributed to Agamemnon and is displayed in the Archeological Museum of Athens. Agamemnon, who fought in the Trojan war, belongs to the Atreides dynasty; during this period, all these glorious monuments were built.
