Summary: _Insurance fraud occurs when someone knowingly lies to obtain some benefit or advantage that they are not entitled to. The insurance company itself might commit insurance fraud by selling bad insurance policies or failing to pay valid claims._ _Mail Fraud is a federal crime under 18 U.S.C. 1341. This makes it a Federal crime or offense for anyone to use the United States mail in carrying out a scheme to defraud._ The two teaching tips that I want you to take away today are (1) don’t go back and forth with your insurance company if their payout is ridiculously below industry standards low (like $3.19sq ft for Berber Carpet installed) just file a claim against your insurance company with the state insurance commissioner. Let the insurance company explain their logic to the insurance commissioner; and, (2) get a certified copy of your full policy. The renewal paperwork that the insurance company sends out to you when you renew your policy is simply the new forms and endorsements that have changed or been updated.
