Psychotherapy, Religion & Spirituality

Dr. Will's Neighborhood show

Summary: {jwplayer}http://www.drwill.com/images/podcast/Tom Dukes Spirituality.mp3{/jwplayer} Psychotherapy and Spirituality Psychotherapy And Spirituality Dr. Tom Dukes, Director of the Graduate Counseling Program at Rhode Island College is, like Dr. Will, a psychotherapist with years of experience working with individuals and families. In years past, psychotherapists were trained to be skeptical of a client’s espoused spiritual and religious views. The operating suspicion was that such ideas as these were defense mechanisms covering for some underlying anxiety. But this antiquated approach has evolved so that the content of the ideas are taken seriously and not dismissed out of hand. We talk about how these ideas and beliefs can represent legitimate insights into the human condition. When are spiritual notions a reflection of deep connection to transcendent ideas or, as in the past, true defenses to be addressed. Special Thanks to announcer Andre Lucas & musical director & theme writer Bent Laidler.
