Cortez Coleman grow up in Hugo, Okla., where three of his brothers have gone to jail and his only role model was his mom who raised five children on her own. People told Cortez he would never amount to anything, beside being a hustler. Football was viewed in Hugo as the only way out of town, so Cortez played high school, which kept him busy and out of trouble. Cortez actually found his way into his early fights by being a manager first, helping twin fighters Mike and Ken Jackson into shows after meeting them at his gym. Then he won some fights, joined Matt Hughes the H.I.T. Squad fight team, and took off from there.
