ITB Shorts Episode 15

In the Bleachers Podcast show

Summary: After taking a day off of football to talk a little college baseball, we're back on the football thing; and it is on the field stuff so yay! I finally get the chance to talk about Ohio State's big change on offense from the standpoint that truly interests me: tempo. Tempo is a strange mistress. She can be your best friend and she can be your worst enemy. When things are going well the tempo can wear out the defense, stop them from adjusting and really take the fight to the opposition. When tempo goes wrong your looking at short drives, no rest for your own defense and a loss in the field position and clock management battle. The Buckeyes are going to be one to watch for; they have the pieces for this move to be successful. However, Urban's team is undergoing two scheme changing transitions: moving from a pro style scheme to the spread attack AND changing their tempo. That's not one change, that's two. Pushing the pace makes everything happen quicker and really puts stress on the offense to understand and synthesize the scheme. It should be interesting to watch on offense. On defense, if the offensive guys get the move quickly, they will be facing teams with offenses pressing to score points. If the offense struggles though, expect tired bodies on defense and that is not a good thing. To listen to the show click here or subscribe to one of the methods listed below.
