Summary: Renate Hartman's July 2013 blog "The High Cost of Passing" revealed some startling statistics such as "Fifteen percent (15%) of transgender people in our sample lived on $10,000 per year or less–double the rate of the general population. The unemployment for transgender people is double the rate of unemployment of the general population. Forty-seven percent (47%) had experienced an adverse job outcome,such as being fired, not hired or denied a promotion."  "About 19% of transgender people have no health insurance.
