Podcast – Fire Protection Failures and Impairments

Safety Lately show

Summary: Fixed fire protection systems such as fire sprinklers and gaseous suppression systems are the backbone of fire protection in industrial and commercial facilities. Fire sprinklers have a stellar record of satisfactory performance. Fire sprinklers are effective in approximately 97% of fires in which they operate. Why are fires not as effective as intended in approximately 3% of fires? When initially installed, fire sprinklers are usually properly designed and installed. What are factors which can compromise the system and cause them to perform less than satisfactorily? How should impairments to the fire system be controlled? This podcast will look at contributing factors to fire protection system failures. Effective impairment and inspection procedures will be discussed to help prevent fire protection system failures.
