An Inside Intimate Look at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Get Balanced With Dr Marissa show

Summary: Special guest Donzaleigh Abernathy, whose father co-founded the Civil Rights Movement with Dr. King and knew him as "Uncle Martin" gives us an intimate insider look at the man who not only taught but literally walked the walk of Non-Violence at home, AND Gerald Rivers, who embodies the words of Martin Luther King Jr., literally, as he gives a powerful and moving rendition of the "I Have a Dream" speech on the air. This episode was inspired by Dr. Marissa's visit to a school in Brazil Ile Aiye (The House of Life) where they credit Dr. King with inspiring the South American civil rights movement, and teach the children "after slavery" their roots in music, movement and song. It was Dr. King's dream for America that also gave the people in Bahia the courage to rise up in non-violence and reconnect with their culture that was lost when they were brutally brought into slavery. Part 2 of this episode will continue in January to finish the conversation inspired by Dr. Marissa's reaction to the movie The Butler for the Question of the Week: We've come a long way baby...or have we?
