GFE Podcast #5: How To Read Food Labels

Good Food Eating: Nutrition and Diet | Natural Weight Loss | Healthy Lifestyle show

Summary: Have you ever wondered how to read food labels? I wouldn't be surprised if you said yes because food labels are quite confusing. Why are there all these columns on food labels? What do they mean? What are you actually looking for? It can all be quite confusing and to tell you the truth, I'm sure food manufacturers do this to us on purpose to confuse us about the foods we buy. And then we have programs like weight watchers or maybe even our doctor tell us to look for things low in fat so all we loook at on a label is low fat content. But is this the best thing to look for? No. Our method of measurement is all wrong when it comes to food. It's not just about the macronutrient composition. The most important thing about food, no matter whether it comes in a packet or not, is quality. If a food product has 49 ingredients but still has a low fat content and looks like it's low in calories, is it really going to be good for you? No. This podcast helps you to understand food labels, well, at least the beginning of getting to know them.
