Austin Comic Con 2013 Panel

Comic Book Page Podcast show

Summary: John Mayo was part of the Comics and Social Media panel at Austin Comic-Con 2013 along with Derek Royal of The Comic Alternative podcast, Russell Latham of the Longbox of Doom podcast and Shea Hennum of the ThisIsInfamous.com blog. From the Austin Comic Con 2013 Guide: COMICS AND SOCIAL MEDIA: THE HOW-TO, THE HOW-MUCH AND THE WHY Curious about what it would take to start you own podcast or blog about comics? This panel focuses on the ins-and-outs of podcasting, blogging, and its links to other forms of social media (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Reddit) in covering comics and comics culture. The panel participants have all been involved in comics-related media for a number of years -- for example, John Mayo of The Comic Book Page has been podcasting since 2007, and Derek Royal of The Comics Alternative has been publishing within comics studies equally as long -- and bring to the session a wealth of knowledge and experience. They also come from different reading perspectives -- such as Russell Lathamrsquo;s focus on mainstream superhero titles in the Longbox of Doom podcasts, and Shea Hennumrsquo;s emphasis on independent publishers in his ThisIsInfamous.com blog postings -- and collectively, they cover a broad range of comics titles. Perhaps most significantly, the panelists strongly encourage audience questions and participation, in that part of the purpose of this session is to inform those new to podcasting and blogging, and they hope to foster a broader and more diverse coverage of all aspects of comics culture.
