Youthwise: Racial Predjudice and Tolerance

Thrive Talk Radio show

Summary: Racial prejudice seems worse than ever in recent years, yet reported racial intolerance is lower than ever among younger generations.  Is racism worse than ever or the same?  Does it stand out because it seems so odd at a time when there is a black president and we are connected around the globe?  Or is racism more subtle because those who remain uneducated or unwilling to accept the equality of all races recognize that they are the minority and hide it?  What can we do to advance racial understanding, tolerance and equality?  How can we create new understanding without fighting against ignorance?  How do we advance tolerance each day, in our hearts and with each other?   Join us for a very personal discussion of racism among Leslie, Bikbaye and youth co-host Sydney.  Leslie will share what her son, Arin, experienced as a biracial youth, and what she has learned and is learning about transforming racism. Bikbaye will share his experiences as a black youth in Chicago and a black leader and musician who has traveled the world.  And Sydney, our teen co-host, will she her experiences as young biracial girl.  Together we will explore our thoughts on promoting tolerance and love, even in the face of prejudice and hatred.  Join us.  Call in!
